Yellowstone 2020 Documentary

Filming During Covid

Looking back at my documentary I made in college, there's a lot I would do differently. This was essentially a solo project where I had to be in charge of every step of the process. Some of the shots are decent and I enjoy some of the sweeping wide shots in this documentary as well as some of the sound design, but there are also a lot of unstabilized shots and other foibles that I really would have preferred to iron out. A tricky part of filming this video was managing battery life. I like to have my camera plugged into a wall when given the chance, but obviously there are no outlets to be found on the road in Yellowstone. I had to always double check that I brought spare batteries with me and even tried to have one charging in the car while heading to the next filming location.
