Fortune Cookie Short Film

In the Director's Chair

Filming this video was a lot of fun. It remains perhaps the biggest film project I've worked on in terms of crew, coordination, and planning. For this project, I was the Director and editor with a team of about 5 (our editor shirked her work so that job fell to me as well). Filming occurred over a couple different days and as Director I was chiefly responsible for all of the planning on this project. I had a really good director of photography who ran the camera for filming. I learned that having a good cinematographer under you as a director really makes a difference in getting the quality you want in filming. It was great to get to discuss different shots and angles with him and I really enjoyed having somebody who could offer sound advice and ideas. I really enjoyed directing the actors as well. Our lead actor, Clay, was amazing to work with too and was quick to take direction and also happy to offer his own ideas as well. Another task I took on for this project was the shot list. I charted out each and every shot using the storyboard that my team cooked up and it ended up really keeping the production crew on task during filming.
